Under the direction of the NEOnet Executive Director, the Data Cabling Specialist is responsible for the installation and repair of data cabling for educational entities associated with the NEOnet consortium. This job has a FLSA status of Non-Exempt.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Install cable pathway systems (cable trays, cable racks, J-hooks or D-rings).
  2. Install, terminate, test, label and document horizontal, backbone and other cables.
  3. Dress and route cable into telecommunications closets, modular furniture and other work areas.
  4. Build out telecommunication and equipment rooms.
  5. Fire-stop various types of cable penetrations.
  6. Test, troubleshoot, and document test results for cabling.
  7. Must have ability to install, terminate and test low voltage cables & fiber optic cables (to include twisted pair cable, coax, power limited tray cable, standard & solid conductor low voltage cable, single mode & multi-mode fiber optic cables).
  8. Understands, adheres to, and promotes the Environmental, Health & Safety policies.
  9. Perform/prepare timely field reporting of asset usage as required.
  10. Perform other duties as needs arise.
  11. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
  12. Maintain a satisfactory compliance with customer.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the NEOnet Executive Director.

           

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Ability to work cooperatively and harmoniously with many individuals of varying backgrounds and to handle information professionally and confidentially.
  2. Ability to organize tasks into a logical and purposeful sequence.
  3. Ability to understand and effectively explain every aspect of the structured cabling system including pathways, spaces, horizontal cabling, backbone copper, backbone fiber optic, cross and inter-connections, and testing. This includes understanding applicable codes, standards, and industry-best practices and the ability to differentiate between them and make recommendations.
  4. Ability to choose the correct tool and methodology for the given task; for themselves and can help other team members do the same.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. High School Diploma or GED
  2. Industry certifications are highly desirable
  3. In-house certified training required (company provided)
  4. 1-3 years’ work experience in structured cabling
  5. Read, write, and understand English
  6. Able to distinguish colors
  7. Must have a valid driver’s license
  8. Ability to travel 90-95% of the time.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee may occasionally be expected to move and/or lift 100 pounds or move but may obtain assistance or use equipment and carts to facilitate these tasks. Specific vision abilities by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  4. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving, mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to occasionally loud.
